Hiii! I'm so sorry that I have been absent here over the past two weeks. After week one of RA training, I was pretty wiped and last week was Welcome Week here at AU. There were a bunch of activities to attend with the freshman, in between maintaining my internship and staying alive as a person. School is back in session this week, so I'm going to do my best to keep posting, but we'll see what happens! Nothing personal, but I think maintaining my health is more important than maintaining this blog (but writing on it is a form of stress relief!).
So much has happened since we last spoke (?). I unfortunately had to give up my job at South Block Juice Co. because I thought it would be impossible for me to do that, do my internship, be a student, and be an RA. When I get the chance, I am definitely checking out their new shop in Georgetown, because that free smoothie that I got when I was hired was pretty awesome!
I am working for The Farm at Sunnyside at the Dupont Circle Farmers Market though! Even though it's early in the morning, I have a lot of fun stocking the tables, and this past Sunday I got promoted to cash register duty! I'm really slow, but that could have also been because I got like four hours of sleep after photographing the Charli XCX concert on campus for The Eagle. While I'm not really a fan of her music (maybe besides Boom Clap XD), she put on a fun show! It was so awesome to be so close to the stage! (Even though I got jipped out of a photo with Charli... but that's a story for a different day!)
Check out some of my photos here:
Also new, I am going to be a Rawxies Ambassador! If you haven't heard about Rawxies, I'm about to make your day! They make some of the tastiest snack cookies out there, and as a bonus they're raw, vegan, gluten free, low sugar, and only made with natural sugar. They're pretty low calorie too, so they're the perfect snack to add to a balanced diet. With flavors like Chocolate Brownie, Banana Nut Bread, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Cranberry Pecan, Lemon Poppyseed, and Mint Chocolate Chip, they're the dream snack you've been waiting for! (Also check out their Crunch snacks with savory flavors like Chili Lime, Curry Chipotle, and Smoked Paprika...also bomb.) Expect to see more about Rawxies here in the future!
I'm enjoying being an RA, and I think my floor is pretty cool! I think I heard that at least some people think I'm chill... So I'm not like a regular RA, I'm a cool RA. ;) I have had all of my classes for the fall at this point, and I'm pretty excited! I'm going to have the opportunity to sit for an exam to become a Certified Personal Trainer at the end of my Exercise Physiology class, and I'm going to be working on a project to hopefully improve my health behaviors in my Health Psychology class. And I'm going to hopefully become a more proficient Spanish speaker, and go on a FIELD TRIP for my Public Relations class. All the while, I will be continuing my internship at FRESHFARM!
I shouldn't be surprised that I have been tending towards emotional eating, not exercising, and not sleeping well these past few weeks. But you know, I'm aware of it so I'm just going to keep trying to get better! You know, at the start of this year I'm at a much better place than I was a year ago, which was just a few weeks after I started taking medication for my anxiety and depression. Sometimes it's easy to focus on the things you aren't doing right and hard to remember to stop and celebrate your accomplishments! You can always keep on working to improve yourself, but always remember the learning curve you've mastered in other areas as well.
I'm quite excited to be an RA because hopefully I can pass this message along to the next generation of baby Eaglets! I guess I can also do the same in my role as Managing Editor of News for The Eagle! I'm not surprised I forgot that too this week... but we had our first pitch meeting this week and I think it was successful! I hope to bring some good content to our site this year and become a more confident and adept journalist. I'd say that's a big thing that this year is about. Becoming more confident and improving my ability to do all the things I love to do and balancing those things with the things I need to do to stay happy and healthy. Let's check in again at the end of the year!
This post is quite long, so I think I'm not going to add my news updates today, but that means I'll have a lot to catch up on next week! Keep an eye out for a recipe post on Friday (fingers crossed!) Thanks for letting me ramble here. :)
P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY DUPPY!!! He turns 10 today! I miss you bud! (As if he is able to read this. XD)
